With so many options available, it is a wonder how sun damage was treated before lasers became the popular solution. Fortunately, there are vast amounts of research resources at our disposal to help understand which options fit our needs. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), or Photo facial, has been a tried and true option to treat a wide variety of skin types.
The results for reducing the look of dark spots and rosacea have never been better, thanks to our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photo facials. Even if you’ve had them for longer than you’d like to admit, your redness and splotches can fade quickly with the help of this effective treatment.
Why are IPL treatments so popular?
That’s easy: Quick, Effective, Limited Downtime. Limelight photo facial therapy is a quick and painless way for ridding the upper layers of the skin from any visible damage done by the sun. It is also one of the fastest methods for treating discoloration of the skin associated with rosacea. This treatment encourages collagen production around the skin’s capillaries, which can improve the youthful appearance of the skin and also help reduce enlarged pores. The benefits of the procedure begin to emerge 2 to 3 weeks after the initial treatment, with the full results being apparent after a month. Areas of dark pigmentation targeted by the treatment will begin to darken and eventually flake off within one to three weeks after the procedure. Beneath these patches will be beautiful, spot-free skin. Limited downtime means, you will be able to put on powder makeup the next day!
What makes Sylvana IPL unique?
Limelight photo facial therapy is an advanced type of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, which is highly customizable for each patient. This treatment visibly reduces the appearance of dark spots or discoloration caused by prolonged exposure to the sun. This treatment uses a wide array of different light wavelengths to eliminate unwanted red and brown marks on the skin.
Why we add that “little something extra”?
If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right. At Sylvana, prior to your Limelight, we like to do a light exfoliation to ensure all the dead skin cells are removed from the surface of your skin. If we are treating underlying redness, this exfoliation will bring out the reds, providing a more effective target for the IPL. After you have recovered from the procedure (7-10 days), we perform an additional exfoliation to get rid of any lingering brown spots or dry skin. This takes this procedure from one routinely given at any practice to one that goes above and beyond. We will also take a before and after photo using our Visia Complexion Analysis machine to assess the improvement from your treatment.
What can I do to enhance the effects of my treatment?
At home care is also important to maintaining the results of your limelight. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! This can’t be stressed enough. Sunscreen will help protect your skin while you are healing, it will also help prevent further damage. Formulations that contain zinc or titanium oxide are preferred. Additionally, having monthly or quarterly professional facials or exfoliation procedures will optimize skin turnover and help to keep skin “in shape”. Having Limelight done annually can help reduce sun damage and prevent winkles as well as permanent skin changes. Finally, using Hydroquinone during the spring and summer months helps limit the number of new spots you see in the fall. It is good to take a break during fall and winter but, keep that sunscreen in your rotation!
