Restoring Your Skin’s Youthful Glow and Beauty With IPL Photofacial and Laser Therapies

Photofacial IPL; laser skin therapy; lasers for reducing wrinkles and minimizing pores; laser therapy for removing age spots and redness—searching the internet for information about IPL laser skin therapy or laser hair removal can leave you more confused than when you began.

Fortunately, you don’t have to make sense of IPL and facial lasers—or any skin therapy procedure—alone. We continuously evaluate new technologies, medical-grade skin care products, skin care services and procedures as they emerge in the market. Then we test them internally on staff to explore how they work in everyday clinical situations on real conditions.

We Have Answers to Your Questions About IPL Photofacial and Other Laser Skin Therapies
What Is An IPL Laser?

IPL stand for Intense Pulsed Light and so, in a true sense, IPL is not actually a laser at all. IPL photofacial treatments are non-invasive and their benefits include:

  • less down time than other laser treatments

  • gradual but continuing improvements in skin tone and color

  • proven effectiveness in dealing with a number of skin conditions

IPL therapies are especially effective in treating brown spots and sun damage, rosacea, acne, acne scars and sagging skin. In fact, IPL therapies are the most widely chosen way to reverse sun damage and so-called age spots—the brown spots and brown-pigmented areas of skin that result over time from sun exposure.

How Does Photofacial IPL Work?

When it’s used to even out skin color—brown from sun-damage and reds that come with forms of rosacea—the principle is simple. The light energy is absorbed by the colors to be eliminated—in some cases the browns, in others the reds. As the hyperpigmented skin absorbs the light energy, it is damaged. That triggers the body’s natural healing process and the damaged areas are “removed” as part of healing.  Secondary benefits include pore reduction and improved skin texture as the heat stimulates collagen production. Overall the effect of IPL laser-based skin therapies is one of brightening the skin, evening out color and improving tone.

We Maximize Your IPL Photofacial Results With Complimentary Vibraderm Treatments

Sylvana Med Spa includes two complimentary Vibraderm treatments with Photofacial IPL skin therapy procedures. The first Vibraderm treatment prepares the skin so you receive the maximum benefit from the procedure. The Vibraderm treatment two weeks after IPL photofacial treatment accelerates the turnover of excess and dead skin cells so you enjoy the full benefits sooner.  We are the only med spa in the region to offer this pre and post-Vibraderm service with an IPL photofacial at no extra charge.

What’s The Difference Between Light and Laser Skin Therapies?

When you hear IPL, photofacial or pulsed light, know that this is a light-based therapy. IPL therapies target the topmost layer of the skin—the epidermis— to reduce redness and brown discoloration caused by sun damage. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light with filters for specific purposes. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a super-charged version of IPL which begins with the application of an aminolevulinic acid to make the skin extra-receptive to the IPL light procedure that follows. PDT is ideal for extreme cases of sun damage, rosacea and severe acne. Lasers use a narrow wavelength for more specific work. They go deeper and are more powerful. The lasers we use are Laser Genesis, Fraxel and Pearl.

Top IPL And Laser Skin Therapy Selections

Our suite of light and laser therapies is a like a palette—giving us many options for getting exactly the results you desire. For a majority of our patients we layer services and use a combination of therapies—each chosen because of the specific results it provides. We pride ourselves on our rigorous evaluation process of new technologies and procedures. It’s part of our commitment to you.

LimeLight: The Latest IPL Innovation Works On Red And Brown Skin Discoloration

Sylvana Med Spa was first to introduce Cutera’s LimeLight—the newest generation IPL—to the Frederick, Maryland region. LimeLight offers three different wavelengths of light providing maximum flexibility for treating a variety of conditions effectively and efficiently. It is ideal for treating both brown and red skin discolorations including tiny veins, brown spots and sun damage on the face, neck and décolleté. It is generally our choice of IPL for photodynamic therapy.

Laser Genesis: The Gold Standard For Treating Diffuse Redness

Laser Genesis does two things extremely well. It stimulates the production of collagen from deep layers of the skin to help reduce the size of pores and it targets dilated blood vessels to reduce redness due to rosacea. Because it is a long-wavelength laser, it is safe for all skin types.

Fraxel: Resurfacing The Skin To Remove Years From Your Appearance

Fraxel is a true laser treatment that is safe and effective. We use it for extensive damage, such as severe sun damage, extreme signs of aging, acne scars or rosacea. After a few days of down time, you can easily return to normal activities with renewed skin and renewed confidence.

Pearl: Revolutionary Development Offers Resurfacing

Everything about Pearl is intense—the results and the process. It’s a laser treatment ideal for patients who want dramatic results in the shortest amount of time, often in just one or two sessions. A Pearl delivers light to the epidermis while it sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to stimulate longer-term collagen growth. With Pearl, the treated skin initially looks slightly sunburned. About five days later, the protective layer peels away naturally leaving new, healthy and vibrant skin with a “pearl-like” glow.

Titan: Like A Face Lift Without Surgery

Titan uses infrared light to tighten the skin of your cheeks, jowls and forehead, as well as excess skin on your neck. It rejuvenates the skin at a deep level by delivering light energy to the dermis. It’s an ideal tightening solution with no surgery, recovery time or injections.

Contour Your Body With Vaser Shape

Vaser Shape is an amazing FDA-approved ultrasound technology that penetrates the skin at a deep level to shape stubborn problem areas. It uses a hand device to melt body cells and then uses suction to stimulate lymphatic drainage. The procedure is a pleasant experience, which our patients liken it to a hot stone massage. The treatment has no downtime.
