Testing

Blood tests can reveal changes that signal disease, degeneration, or aging even before people notice these changes.

To begin your journey to better health, we use lab tests because they are extremely effective in pinpointing specific problems.

The body is an interconnected system, so this approach may seem counterintuitive but, often times small imbalances or dysfunctions build up and interact with each other.  Certain symptoms may show up and will not go away with typical treatments; or may show up as a general feeling of fatigue and poor health.

There are certain things that every patient will be tested for and others that depend on your individual needs.  The specific information provided by lab tests allows you and Dr. O'Connell to get the big picture of your body’s ecosystem, as well as tipping her off  to what further questions to ask about your health.

Functional laboratory testing may include blood, stool, urine, saliva or hair samples to provide information about a variety of systems including metabolic, nutritional, endocrine, gastrointestinal, hormonal, immune, genetic, detoxification, and others.

Can I request my own laboratory tests?

Individuals cannot order tests themselves, due to state regulatory requirements, but if you are interested in having a specific laboratory test performed, please ask your Sylvana healthcare provider if the test is appropriate for you, and if he/she can order the test(s) for you.

What should I do to prepare for my lab test?

There’s a good chance your lab tests won’t require you to prepare at all, but follow your Sylvana practitioner's instructions for fasting or other preparation.  Fasting means not eating or drinking for a specified time period before your test to ensure your results are accurate.

How long does it take to get lab or blood work results?

Results for routine lab tests performed at usually available within a few days.  Complex tests sent to special labs will take longer and may vary based on type; confirm the timing of these tests with your practitioner.
