Photofacials are a series of full face, gentle pulsed light treatments that improve the appearance of sun damaged and aged skin, and reduce facial and neck redness and flushing. It will also help improve photo-aging of the skin, age spots, irregular skin texture, some mild acne scars, large pores, and fine lines, especially around the eyes. With photofacial treatments there is little or no down time.
A “Photofacial/Fotofacial,” or Intense Pulsed Laser (IPL™) is a 30-minute procedure in which intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin. IPL™ causes collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, reducing redness and age lines. Most benefits occur gradually in the weeks following treatment.
It can be used to treat redness caused by acne, rosacea, hyper-pigmentation and facial veins, as well as the fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging or sun damage. And if your skin has been discolored as a result of smoking, alcohol use, or hormonal changes, a photofacial can smooth and refine your complexion. However, certain factors, including dark or deeply tanned skin, may make certain people ineligible for a Photofacial. During your free consultation, a Sylvana professional will recommend the procedure(s) that best meet your needs.
During a photofacial, high energy light waves are used to reduce or eliminate many common effects of aging, including facial wrinkles and skin discolorations. IPL light also encourages the production of collagen, a natural protein that fills in wrinkles, making the skin smooth and supple. With each treatment, the results become more pronounced.
A photofacial involves relatively little discomfort and no downtime. Unlike many laser techniques, the procedure is non-ablative, meaning no skin is removed during treatment. Consequently the side effects are minimal.
Though recovery is rapid, it is important to keep in mind that sunscreen is vital to ensuring the results of the procedure last as long as possible. Be sure to protect the treated area from the sun for at least a couple of weeks, either by covering the area or wearing strong sunscreen.
