Our philosophy in providing medical aesthetic services is to help you feel good about yourself...both outside and inside. We do this by listening. We want to learn who you are, and what your needs and concerns are, so that together we can help you achieve your goals. You will never be a number or just another face in the crowd. The three sisters that give the Sylvana Institute its unique philosophy: Left to right are Kateri DeLaney, R.N., Clinical Director; Meg Comer, Practice Manager; and Jeanne O’Connell, M.D., Founder.

Dr. Jeanne O’Connell: "This is such gratifying work — far different from emergency room medicine — but I think it’s just as important in its own way. How people feel about themselves and how they look certainly has a profound impact on their lives.

Kateri DeLaney: "So many of our clients tell us they wish they had come here sooner. They felt it was vain to do so, or they didn't deserve to spend the time or money on themselves, or others would judge them.

"When they finally do decide to visit us they kick themselves for worrying so much.

"And we research all of the new cosmeceuticals products to determine which ones actually work — just using the right combination of products for one's skin type can make an amazing difference!"

Jeanne O’Connell, M.D.

Dr. O’Connell has been a resident of Frederick, Maryland since early childhood. She continues to live in Frederick with her family. After practicing medicine for many years in Baltimore, she elected to exclusively provide aesthetic services to the community in which she grew up and continues to live.

Dr. O’Connell received her undergraduate degree from Towson State University, where she majored in Philosophy and Chemistry. Working with the Frederick Cancer Research Facility, she attended the Masters Program in Medical Virology. She received her Medical Doctorate from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Dr. O’Connell completed her residency at The University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she continues to serve as Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. Her primary site is Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.

After broadening her interests and training extensively to practice aesthetic medicine, Dr. O’Connell founded The Sylvana Institute for Medical Aesthetics in Frederick. Through due diligence, she continues to stay one step ahead of the latest breakthroughs in this rapidly progressing field. Dr. O’Connell has expanded her practice to train other medical professionals in the art of this new area of medicine.

Kateri DeLaney, R.N., B.S.N.

Kateri DeLaney, Clinical Director, has also been a nearly life-long resident of Frederick. She attended St. John’s Grade School and St. John’s at Prospect Hall high School, and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society.

She earned her B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland. Her nursing experience includes critical care and trauma nursing.

With her intense interest in medical aesthetics, Kateri has studied advanced procedures and received certificates for Advanced PhotoDynamic Therapy with Levulan®; Clinical Peel Training with Advanced Skin Care Systems and Advanced Aesthetics Training certificates from SkinCeuticals® and Obaji®.

She recently earned a certificate in Advanced PhotoDynamic Therapy from the Clear Skin Laser Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

The course was taught a nationally-known expert in the field and focused on advanced techniques for skin rejuvenation and acne treatments.

Kateri has also been certified by the Laser Institute of America on Medical Laser Safety.
